DBSC Tuesday Evening 1720 Racing

(21 Mar 2019)

Launching for the 2019 summer season is a new initiative to help members become involved in inshore racing. We’re delighted to be acting on feedback from the AGM where there was a clear desire to get racing on the 1720s and more generally to provide an avenue for members to get involved in more DBSC fleets.

The following programme builds on these ambitions, and is put out in a format that is consultative. This is the plan, however, if there are major problems with the format we’ll have another look.

Training and Race Coaching

We plan to enter a number of 1720s into the DBSC Tuesday night racing. The first stint of 5 weeks can include an instructor aboard, teaching the skills needed to safely start, fly the spinnaker, recover it and how to determine what the course is.

  • April       23rd - No racing, training instead
  • April       30th
  • May       7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

Racing

Once these initial races are complete, the crews will take to the race track solo. Crews can chop and change as required, however, at least 2 crew who have attended the training would need to be aboard each evening to ensure there is sufficient experience aboard.

  • June      4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
  • July        2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
  • August   6th, 13th, 20th, 27th

The 1720s will be made available on a charter basis. The following costs are approximate;

  • Racing and Training Block - €200 per evening, based on crew of 5, €240pp for 6 evenings
  • Racing - €150 per evening, based on crew of 5, standard club voucher per person.

Please note, DBSC start evening racing very early, meaning that those working in town may struggle to make the start time. The first gun is usually around 6.45pm, meaning you would need to be on the boat by 6.15pm at the latest.

Interested?

Please do get in touch. We may hold an informal introductory session during club sailing prior to the racing where we can determine interest and whether members wish to commit to a series or work in 4-5 week blocks.
