Welcome to the first Training Newsletter. After consultation a decision was taken to alternate between a Newsletter and a Training Guide every two weeks. It will allow us to cover the news that matters to you in more detail and add on the a benefit of offering a dedicated training programme to run alongside Club Sailing.
Thursday and Saturday Sailing – Let us know what you want to improve upon
As we did last Saturday, upon requests by a few club members a few drills and associated coaching was provided to some of the dinghy sailors. Simply let us know what you’d like to cover and we’ll do our best to facilitate this.
Scheduled Coaching
We’ll shortly publish a few selected topics of interest and build a programme of informal coaching around some skills from the intermediate sailing levels. Topics currently include; ropework, anchoring, man overboard recovery, coming alongside a pontoon, introduction meteorology.
The way it will work is that a few minutes will be spent before the club briefing running through a bit of theory in the club room, followed by a very informal (and short) exercise on the water that I will run. An informal chat at the end of the sail will help members cement their new skill.
These topics are short, introductory sessions that will help you improve your sailing. However, the structure will be such that members who do not wish to participate are not affected.
Upcoming Course of Interest:
RYA Start Racing Certificate Course: Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July. This course is ideal for those who have little or no racing experience, as well as those who have participated in a number of races and events. The course will include information about starting procedure and techniques, tactics, scoring systems and more. The course will consist of some classroom based work, followed by practical on the water teaching.
